superhero photo shoot

You know what they say, whatever skill you have or task you do for work gets neglected when it comes to your own household or personal life. Okay, so that’s not even close to a quote and probably not a lot of people say it like that, but no importa a mi. When it comes to photography and taking photos in general, our own family tends to be last. This superhero photo shoot was loosely planned but we decided spur of the moment to put it into action.

Our little guy (Oliver, Oli for short) turned 2 and was/is super into the PJ Masks. We bought the PJ Seeker toy for his birthday and he was ecstatic. I’m a huge superhero and comic fan and apparently that apple didn’t fall far from the tree. Oli was loving every minute of it and so did we. Even without prompting, he kept giving us great super hero stances, which we were eating up. We thought he just a normal kid but we were wrong. Apparently Oli is similar to baby Jack-Jack from the Incredibles as he exhibits super speed, cosmic energy, and…wields Mjolnir? He is worthy!

I took all of these photos on a Fujifilm X-T3 using the Fujinon XF 55-200mm lens. I did all of the initial editing in Lightroom and the super abilities were created in Photoshop. The effects required a lot of masking and the lightning was created using Difference Clouds and several other adjustments, blurred duplicate layers, and layer effects.

The best part of it all was when my 8 year old son looked at the photos and said with utter disbelief, “NO WAY! OLI DID THAT!?” Job well done!
